Over a period of time, some of the claimants within the membership has come up with a series of tips based on their experience with the US Department of Labor’s Office of Workers’ Compensation Program.
1. Record Keeping:
A. Arrange all materials by OWCP claim numbers(s)
B. Arrange all materials by date. Records not maintained in chronological
order tends to be confusing after a long period.
2. Freedom of Information Act
You may and should request all copies of your records from OWCP and
your employing agency. see record keeping above
3. Final Decisions from OWCP
When a final decision is issued it must contain the following:
A. Memorandum to the Director
B. Compensation Order
C. Appeals Rights
If any of the above is missing, your case has not been properly processed by OWCP and should be grounds for review by the District Office or by the appeals process.
Do not let the dates set forth in the appeals rights to expire. There may not be another chance.
